I used to run for cover from Ticks, No-See-Ums & Mosquitoes & Fleas or anything else that bites and causes me to itch and have red spots . I am one of those who scratches till I bleed. I have never had much luck with DEET insect repellents either. I had also tried several "natural" repellents and not much luck there either. So I decided to do some research and make my own. This is family tested and approved by several redheads! I have folks ask for a spray sometimes and here is my take on that... the Shea butter really carries the essential oils into the skin where it stays and the neem oil i use is the real stuff and it is a semi solid so it does not do well in a spray bnottle with the amount I use.. It is even good for your skin! If you're at all like me you will run to the garden and forget to put it on and then get bit. The nice thing about this repellent is that you can use it even after you get bit, it will help the itch and healing because of the tea tree oil in the lotion.
I have lots of folks I sell this to at the Local Farmers Market and they buy more than one (they love it and want to make sure that they have plenty on hand). I tell them to be sure to store the extra bar in the freezer.
I have found that one tube last one person about one season. It does not take much
One of my customers at the farmers market came back to get their third bar and had a great story. She and her family had a fishing trip planed. She bought my natural insect repellent for the trip. They had to cancel their trip early because her husband would not use any of that sissy natural stuff and he got bit up so bad by the mosquitoes and such they had to come back. My customer (the wife) and the kids did not get bit even once.
